Mechatronics department of ISMMB at FME ensures important parts of teaching at Bachelor and Master courses of Mechatronics study programme. In addition to teaching, there are several research groups focused on applied R&D and industrial contracts.
Mechatronics laboratory (Mechlab)
Teaching: Mechlab provides students with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge on real laboratory models. In laboratory exercises in several subjects during 1.-4. year of study, students design position and velocity controllers for a DC motor using MATLAB/Simulink and multifunctional MF624 I/O card. Furthermore the students learn to program microcontrollers (in C, or directly from Simulink) and e.g. work with and oscilloscope. A well-equipped soldering station, two modern Hardware-In-the-Loop dSPACE systems, a lot of National Instruments HW and much more are at disposal for the students to work with on their Bachelor’s and Master’s theses. In addition, there are LEGO Mindstorms kits, which are used during teaching as well as for student competitions.
Industrial contracts: Laboratory staff solve R&D contracts and specialized training for industry partners such as ŠKODA Auto, BOSCH, SIEMENS, Prototypa, SIGMA Lutín, ŽĎAS, Hestego and many others. Our specialization is development of unique test and measurement devices, and custom devices.

Computational and experimental analyses of mechatronics systems
- Computational analyses – thermal, hydraulic, ventilatory analyses, complex cooling analyses, structural (strength) analyses, electromagnetic analyses.
- Experimental analyses – ventilation and thermal measurements, energetic balances.

Mobile robotics
This group focuses on development of autonomous mobile robot for indoor and outdoor environment. Mobile robot is the epitome of Mechatronics: combination of mechanics, electronics, sensorics, actuators, signal processing and computational sciences. Students working in this group will learn teamwork, gain experience from multiple fields and will learn to integrate disparate knowledge into one unit.
